Setting Up, Supporting & Consulting on a School-Based Model

Practical, school-ready occupational therapy consultation to embed an evidence-informed, 3 tiered (universal, targeted, individual) approach to supporting student inclusion and participation.

What We Do

  • Collaborative scoping projects to determine needs and strategy
  • Assist schools to design and implement a 3-tier occupational therapy support model.
  • Universal (Tier 1): whole-class strategies, sensory-friendly classroom design, teacher training and classroom routines that support regulation and access for all students.
  • Targeted (Tier 2): small-group programmes, differentiated activities, environmental adaptations and monitoring tools for students who need extra support.
  • Individual (Tier 3): School based OT intervention for specific high needs students involving focussed individual OT sessions, collaborative planning and programme implementation with educational staff

Services included

  • Needs assessment and mapping of existing practices.
  • Practical implementation plan, templates, screening tools and checklists.
  • Staff training sessions, demonstration lessons and resource packs.
  • Ongoing coaching and mentoring to teachers and support staff, case review meetings and data-driven progress monitoring.
  • Whole school/classroom audits and sensory strategies
  • Training on implementation of OT programmes in the classroom. An extensive range of programmes are available including foundation skill development: such as fine motor skills, sensory processing: and functional classroom skills such as handwriting, self regulation
  • Group session training and implementation including sensory circuits, handwriting, life skills
  • Individual assessments such as sensory portrait assessments, work production, visual perceptual and motor skill development
  • For regular direct OT in school there is a minimum of six days per academic year or one visit per half term. This time can be used flexibly.
  • Milestones OT currently does not have capacity do single treatments across multiple weeks e.g. one hour per week for a single child
